When he was 17 Steve formed The Boys with lads from school - he switched from playing bass to guitar. They released an EP, Happy Days, in 1988 on their own label and sold it at gigs. Steve was hailed one of the best songwriters in Birmingham by Derby-based fanzine 'Empty Hours' - record labels became interested in signing The Boys but just a year later, they no longer existed. Steve merged with The Fanatics in 1989 to form Ocean Colour Scene.

Steve has successfully played with his idol Paul Weller on many a song and tour. He's not a shy lad; he jumps and prances about all over the stage while still maintaining an unbelievable accuracy on the guitar - it seems that he makes a lot of it up as he goes along - a true master of the instrument. Steve's father, Chris, is the bands long serving manager.

Steve has contributed a mixture of backing, guitar and piano to the Paul Weller albums 'Wildwood', 'Live Wood', 'Stanley Road', 'Heavy Soul' and 'Heliocentric' Steve even used to own Paul Weller's scooter, 'The Spirit of '66', until it was stolen.

Steve is the youngest in the band and is often seen in slightly flared, 70's style corduroy jeans and button down mod shirts. After living briefly in Brighton, Steve has recently returned to Birmingham with his wife and pet dog, George.

He also famously collaborated with Liam Gallagher for a cover version of The Jam's 'Carnation'. The song, which featured on The Jam tribute album 'Fire & Skill', reached a commendable No.6 in UK charts and saw Steve playing each and every instrument.

Steve has recently become a dad for a Second time, his wife Sally giving birth to a little boy named Cassie, weighing 6 and half ounces, he will be the little brother to their first born, Sunny Elizabeth, who weighed just under 6 pounds.
