I Just Need Myself

This was originally going to be called ‘New one in A’, then it changed to ‘I get too Much’ before settling on the current title. Its going to be the first Single.
Simon: ‘Written over a cracking backing track, the song is about the shadowy fears that go through your head when its on the pillow’
Steve: ‘This started out with a drum loop from Aretha’s Rock Steady, and I tried to do a bluesy ‘White Stripes’ guitar part and it changed into this.’

2

Oh Collector

Simon: ‘A Song about paying your dues and nearly getting away with it. A Favourite.’
Steve: ‘It is a great title. Started as an acoustic song, ended up as heavy as we could make it. There is a great sounding autoharp in the third verse and outro’

3

North Atlantic Drift

This was first played to the fans, on Simon and Oscar’s acoustic tour of late 2002, it also features on the ‘Live on the Riverboat’ limited edition CD.
Simon: Where the euphrates meets the other river is now the home of the devil and the liar and the pyre we plan to make is just the drift leaving its wake.
Steve: ‘I had the idea of N.A.D, when I did the video to ‘Written in the Stars’ with Paul (Weller). Told Simon and the next day he phoned me pissed, and read me the lyrics, which I think are one of the best he has done’

4

Golden Gate Bridge

Was in the running as the title of the album.
Simon: ‘Looking forward to the rest of your life with the love of your life’
Steve: ‘One of the first songs we recorded and I think my favourite on the album’

5

Make the Deal

Was originally going to be called ‘The Real World’
Simon: ‘A dart aimed at a few previous colleagues’
Steve: ‘I Love the Spector/Brian Wilson references’

6

For every Corner

Simon: ‘Still working this one out, you will be singing the chorus mind’
Steve: ‘Great track, great harmonies’

7

On My Way

Simon: ‘A story song about a madman on the run’
Steve: ‘A stripped down sound, a brass section and Chuck Berry in mind’

8

Second Hand Car

Again, this was also first performed on the Acoustic Tour first
Simon: ‘Another story, about a wife escaping violence’
Steve: ‘Folk Music’

9

She’s Been Writing

Apparently, Simon’s Favourite song on the album
Simon: ‘This story is about Fairport Convention’s Sandy Denny - written after reading a crushing biography called “No more sad refrains”.
Steve: ‘Si wrote this for Sandy Denny, and its got her mate singing on it.’

10

The Song Goes On

Simon: ‘Written down instantly after singing it off the top of my head. The Neil Young nod is courtesy of our producer, Max’
Steve: ‘An Epilogue, the middle bit reminds me of the Small Faces’

11

When Evil Comes

Simon: ‘Damon chose the title from the best line in the song. More fears and more topper most from Max’
Steve: ‘Max’s Idea’

The New Album is released on the 7th July ( incidentally, Steve Cradock’s dad and Manager of the Band, Chris Cradock’s Birthday ) The album name was announced in an interview with the boys ‘local’ paper, the Birmingham Evening Mail. The album is now complete and has got 11 Tracks (See Below)
