’A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad’ Released

The time is finally upon us, the new album, ‘A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad’ is out now!. Go buy it and see if we can get the album higher up the charts than the Single achieved. I will also now post the lyrics to all the songs and the single B-Sides today and hopefully some photos from the In-store album signing in Birmingham as well. New Album Charts in 30th Place

The new album entered the charts in a disappointing 30th place, after being in 20th place in the midweek charts, it slipped towards the end of the week to end up in 30th position. In contrast, previous albums, North Atlantic Drift placed 14th and Mechanical Wonder placed 7th.

OCS News Updates - Babyshambles, Keighley

Steve Cradock has been asked by Babyshambles, (Pete Dohertys band after splitting from ‘The Libertines’) to play lead guitar when they go into the Studio to record their new album. In other news, the OCS Keighley warm-up gig provisionally planned for 31st March has been moved to July, with the 26th being the most likely date.

UK Tour - Send in your Photos and Reviews

With the 26 date tour kicking off this coming weekend in Liverpool, anyone who is going to the various dates, please send in your pictures, reviews, setlists and recordings of the gigs. OCS Tour Setlist News

The Band have been very busy rehearsing for the upcoming tour, the setlist that has taken shape so far from this includes 6 songs taken from the new album, 2 of which will definitely be ‘God’s World’ and ‘Drive Away’, surprise inclusions on the list are ‘40 Past Midnight’, Half A Dream Away’ and ‘Day Tripper’, all of which looks to be heading towards the most interesting and diverse OCS Gig setlist in years. Bring it on.

Simon in ‘I’m Straight’ Confession

After years of being Gay and living with long term boyfriend Robert, Simon has confessed that he has been living a lie and it was all a PR stunt during the height of the bands fame in the Mid 90’s to gain continued exposure. Simon said ‘I got bored with having to camp it up everywhere I go, so I had to let it out (the secret).

Tour - A further Irish Tour Date Added

Another Tour Date has been added to the 26 Date tour that kicks off tomorrow, the Gig in Limerick’s Dolan’s Warehouse Venue, on Monday 2nd May, is sandwiched between the end of the UK tour dates and the start of the four night stint in Dublin.

OCS in Summer Gig at Crathes Castle - Rumour

Simon Fowler mentioned during the Aberdeen gig (and has talked about in Interviews this year) that the Band are planning to play a summer gig at a Castle somewhere, at the gig he stated the venue as Crathes Castle, probably the end of July or appearing at ‘Live on the Lawn’ festival in August. (Note - This gig has not been confirmed yet)

OCS @ Haldern Pop Festival - Rumour

OCS are due to appear at the Haldern Pop Festival in Germany on 5th or 6th August, in a strong line up featuring Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs amongst others, this appearance is likely to be one of a few at festivals across Europe this summer, check back for more festival dates soon. Exclusive - OCS Glasgow Gig

After speaking to Chris Cradock at the Brighton Soundcheck, he stated that there will be a ‘small’ gig in Glasgow, at a, as yet, unnamed venue. The gig is planned for the end of June and is likely to be a warm-up for some of the planned European Festival Dates OCS are due to play. (Note - This appearance has not been confirmed yet)

Oscar in Hospital Scare

Oscar has been in Hospital in one of the off days in the 26 Date tour, after complaining of feeling unwell during the rigorous tour schedule, during a routine scan, he was found to have irregularities with his heart and is booked to go back into Hospital this Wednesday. I am sure all of your will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery. Get Well Soon Oscar.

Second Single Released - June 6th

The second single to be taken from ‘A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad’ is out on June 6th, the choices of song for this release are: Drive Away, This Day Should Last Forever and God’s World, with Drive Away being the hot favourite.
In other news, OCS also mention they would like to do a Live DVD from the current tour, although the record label Sanctuary are not very keen on the idea.

This upbeat, radio friendly tune, and catchy chorus should fare better in the charts than first single ‘Free My Name’.

OCS Glasgow Gig in June - Order Tickets Now

As mentioned previously on this site, OCS are going to play a Gig in Glasgow on Saturday 25th June. The Venue is the former ABC Cinema, which has been converted to a Music Venue and opens for the first time in June, with a capacity of 1200 in the main arena, read more about the refurbishment here. The lads are currently in Spain, and are due to play in the evening of the opening of the new FNAC store in Madrid. In other news, the second single ‘This Day Should Last Forever’ will be released on only 1 CD and a 7” on June 6th, one of the B-sides being ‘Last December’. The Lads are also ‘in-session’ on the Janice Long show on Radio 2 to promote the new single on June 7th.

OCS Gig @ Blackpool and Single News

The lads will be playing at Blackpools Empress Ballrooms on August 13th as part of an all day Northern Soul event, which will be featuring some very special support. Ticket information is to follow. There will also be a Gig in Keighley sometime in July.

The Single release date has been moved back to June 13th to be try to get more Radio play, the tracklist for the single is posted below, at the present time, there is no plans to make a video for ‘This Day Should Last Forever’.

‘This Day Should Last Forever’ - New Release Date

The new single ‘This Day Should Last Forever’ release date has been moved again, it is now 20th June, having previously been June 6th and June 13th, the reason given for the move is in order to gain much needed radio play. The Song has also been put on the Radio 2 ‘C’ List which means it will get approx 5 plays, Terry Wogan has already played it twice on his popular Radio show.

The official site is currently having server problems, and has been for the last couple of days. The forum has been out of use since then and now is closed completely with a curios error message which seems to hint at bigger issues. I am sure the website team are working hard to resolve these issues and it will be back up in no time.

OCS on Irish TV - Tommorrow

The lads were in Ireland today recording for the show ‘Other Voices’ which will air on RTE2 between 8pm and 9pm tommorrow 28th May. The video for OCS’s performance on Irish TV Channel RTÉ 2 is now available from their website, in a streaming RealPlayer video format. The Gig lasts just under 15 minutes and includes ‘Profit In Peace’, ‘This Day Should Last Forever’, ‘Circle’ and ‘The Day We Caught The Train’. It’s worth watching just for Simon’s Beard!

OCS on Radio 2 ‘Session’ - Tonight

The band are on the Janice Long Show tonight, 'In Session'. The performance was recorded during the recent 'Hyperactive Workout Tour' and features some of the new songs and some old classics. The show starts on Radio 2 (88-91FM) from Midnight.
